Why are our hospitals so dirty (Limerick Regional) ?
I was visiting someone in Limerick Regional Hospital yesterday. Going in the main door I had to wade through what seemed like hundreds of cigarette butts and associated litter.
The patient I was visiting was telling me about the previous day when fallen cutlery was replaced by the catering staff on another patients plate. The toilets were overflowing with paper waste and the towel rail was long gone.
What worries me is that this is the dirt we can see - what happens that we can't see ?
On the way out the front entrance was just as dirty...looks like nothing has changed in a year..

The great airline security fiasco.
Leaving aside the fact that stopping me bringing a bottle of water through security isn't going to prevent the other 37 people on board from cmbining all their little bottles into one big one..
What is beginning to get to me is the insistence (like in Dublin and Frankfurt last week) that I put my passport as well as my wallet through the x-ray machine. So whilst I'm going through the metal detector my only proof of identity is out of my reach and control. In a busy queue what's to stop some langball from whipping my stuff ?

A little known fact (to me)
Coming back on a Lufthansa Airbus A319 from frankfurt to Dublin last week I noticed tha t it didn't have a row 13...
Hard to believe that the pragmatic Germans would be so superstitious. Then again the plane was full of Chinese people and the PA was playing that tune of reconciliation between Asian countries "Merry Christmas Mr Lawrence"....

Next time you're going through Douglas on a busy Friday and see a long queue of folk waiting to turn right up the Well Road please note that it's a queue and that means you go to the end of it. You don't drive up the empty straight-ahead lane and then at the top pull in front of the guys turning right. That's just plain ignorance and indeed I'm sure it's against some Rule of the Road.
Queues are not just for other people you know....
