Sur la BRETAGNE

More security theatre.

In Portsmouth tonight foot passengers had to go through metal detectors and x-ray machines. There was a box for them to leave forbidden knives. Meanwhile the car passengers could bring on whatever they wanted.

However some cars did get stopped for random checks where a hobbit peered in through the windows and got folk to open their bonnets or boots. He didn't find any box marked "bomb" thankfully though one may have been hidden amongst dirty washing.

So do I feel safer on the Bretagne knowing that portsmouths finest rent-a-muppet have searched me ?

Not on your nana !

Near St Lunaire

The Andrea in St Malo

St Malo before the deluge.

I'm having breakfast in Café Licorne near Porte St Vincent and the area is calm with a few tourists and delivery folk. There are even parking spaces around.

In another hour or so this place will be heaving with tourists steaming up and down looking at the pictures being sold by the street traders. Parking will be non-existent and it will be like that until this evening.

St Malo certainly is a successful spot but maybe too successful ? Well worth a visit though and the views from the walk along the ramparts are excellent. Also worth a visit is the Fort National built by Vauban . When the French flag is flying then you can walk across and visit the fort.

Raise the orange flag

Lifeguard in St Lunaire

Surfs up

'Tis windy

Its almost high tide here in St Lunaire and the wind (forecast to be 45 kmh ) is driving the waves in. Quite strong waves for a low coefficient tide. The surfers are out in their droves to take advantagne.

Weather has been mixed and never too warm ! Rain has made an appearance most days but not for long. The forecast for Thursday shows the sun symbol which makes it the first time we've seen it since we arrived.

Posting from a Nokia 770

This is to test posting a pic to blogger that was transferred from my K750i to my new Nokia 770. In theory this means I could use a free hotspot to upload pics.....

The famine is over.

Well I can send pics directly to Blogger from my phone using email which is dearer than the MMS method used to update flickr. Still I suppose it's worth it to keep you dear readers amused, entertained , provoked and amazed.

Test via email

This is a test

Flickr problems again

Sony sorted things out.

Quick post to mention that I got my camera (and deposit) back from M.F. Services. The camera is now back to its usual self without any sign of the dreaded CCD problem. Strangely whilst I had to drop it in myself the camera was all set to be posted back.. Anyway all is well again and i took the opportunity to ring Mr Sony UK and express my thanks for his support.

TimeLapse from Dublin to Cork

GammaGoblin has an excellent post showing a video of his trip home from Dublin - 47hours distilled into 1m12secs. Go over and have a look. I was thinking of videoing our trip in France but now that seems so so passe....

Digiweb Mail problems - anyone else ?

Anybody else having problems with their Digiweb mail ? My domain is hosted on Digiweb and since yesterday evening I cannot access my mail server. Mail sent to me isn't bouncing just going into the great blackhole. first sign was when my blackberry had two warning emails that the mobileemail service couldn't connect. Thunderbird and telnet give "conenction refused" If I log onto my webmail it displays a totally empty mailbox and had no previous logins. It being a Bank Holiday Digiweb seem to be off...
