Why are our hospitals so dirty (Limerick Regional) ?

I was visiting someone in Limerick Regional Hospital yesterday. Going in the main door I had to wade through what seemed like hundreds of cigarette butts and associated litter.

The patient I was visiting was telling me about the previous day when fallen cutlery was replaced by the catering staff on another patients plate. The toilets were overflowing with paper waste and the towel rail was long gone.

What worries me is that this is the dirt we can see - what happens that we can't see ?

On the way out the front entrance was just as dirty...looks like nothing has changed in a year..

  1. The saying used to be... make sure you live before you die, but in Ireland its getting very close to: live before you get sick and have to go to hospital. The thought of going to hospital these days frightens me to be honest.
